Short Film “Kahonzi” Shot On Mobile Phone Scoops #BestMobileFlickKE Award


Kahonzi, a short film by producer Said Square shot in Kilifi using a mobile phone has won #BestMobileFlickKE .

The film describing how young girls in Kilifi County, coast region of Kenya are facing difficulties in their lifestyle. Girl child empowerment is not prioritized in the community leading to a high school dropouts.

Both parents should take responsibility of their children’s up bring, which is not the case in this short film. Women tend to cover up their daughters mischievous behaviors leading to early pregnancies and marriages.

This competition, organized by Kenya Film Commission, a state corporation under the Ministry of Sports, Culture and the Arts, which saw 32 Kenyan film projects were submitted and 22 successfully qualified for judging after filtering through the submissions. The public voting ran from 29th May to 14th June 2018.

Said who is a beneficiary of Kenya Film Commission workshops that were done in the 47 counties. Previously with no formal training, Said & his team were empowered with basic skills of film-making in 2017.

Kahozi crew walked away with a cash prize worth Kshs 200,000, Kshs 150,000 for 1st Runners up and 100,000 for 2nd Runners up.
