Mayorkun empowers and tackles body-shaming with “Up To Something”. Sampling a Nigerian classic by Plantashun Boiz’ Faze, Mayorkun calmy sings, “… but you don’t really understand, that you’re beautiful just the way you are…”, over the seizing SperoachBeatz crafted instrumentation reassuring listeners that beauty comes in different forms, shapes, colors, and sizes.
Mayor spoke about the song during the Clarence Peters directed video shoot which featured over 100 girls saying; “Up To Something is a song different from anything you will find in my discography and it is personal to me. I searched social media for girls of different ethnicity, shapes, sizes, skin colour, hair texture and more to showcase that we all are beautiful. As much as I want to deliver a pop record, I wanted a song with a weighty message, so while you are dancing to it at the club or a party, watching the video on T.V, it leaves you with love, feeling beautiful, appreciation for yourself and everyone around you. Music is a tool, we must use to change societal ills”.
