In the wake of an incredible sold-out headline show at Hoxton’s Colours, the ever-inspiring Lady Donli shares the cinematic and action-packed video for her single ‘Corner’, taken from her debut album ‘Enjoy Your Life.’
The visual, directed by Shaun Kalu and featuring an inclusive and diverse cast, is a colorful and rich piece that marries the visual narrative with the infectious audio. Her first offering of the new year, Lady Donli continues to pave the way as an energetic and joyous artist. Having spent time across North America, Britain and Nigeria, Lady Donli’s music is a result of the different cultures and societies that have molded her.
Boasting rich and symbolic imagery woven through the narrative of social struggle, the viewer is left with a clear sense of strength and harmony. Lady Donli as always sets to unite her fans and listeners regardless of background, through her music.
As director Shaun Kalu explains: “My vision for the film was to make a melodrama, a Nollywood home video that possesses multiple layers and juxtapositions. The most telling, being the intention to show that we (the younger generation) are well aware of societal and cultural issues— especially for women. I’m more than willing to inculcate that into the art. There was also a deliberate effort for the casting to be highly inclusive and diverse. You will find that we were able to cast different layers of powerful women and men in unison for the leading group in the film “Alfa Babez” led by Lady Donli.
It was such an honor to have this huge vision shaped and brought to fruition with the help of my collaborators; The costume designers and stylists— Hexefae (Ashley Okoli and Roosevelt Amase), A3 studio (Cosmas Ojemen , Nezodo Emeka and Adedayo Laketu), the make up artist ; Ay0po , the entire cast, and our Presido; Lady Donli.”
