Rappers King Kaka and Wangechi, actress, singer and radio personality Patricia Kihoro, Karis the Comedian and drummer Olive Karmen are among a pool of mentors selected to interact with the youth at the inaugural edition of Blaze Be Your Own Boss summit.
BYOB, created to empower youth with a desire to pursue careers considered to be unconventional, is slated to happen Today at the Eldoret Sports Club.
This will be the first of six summits to be held across the country between June and mid-August.
The series of summits will see participants gain from insights into various areas of interest including business, sports, fashion, technology and agriculture.
They will also benefit from real stories as told by real people who have been able to succeed in such fields.
Alongside the artists, young entrepreneurs including Eric Muthomi (CEO of Stawi Foods), Amana Insurance Brokers CEO Ahmed Abdi and Fatboy Animations’ Mike Muthiga.
Others are techpreneur Trevor Kimenye of Ongair, FAFA co-Founder Sylvia Tonui and steeplechase champion Conseslus Kipruto.
“We’re giving the youth an opportunity to learn from other young people who have broken barriers to achieve success in fields considered to be outside the norm,” says Safaricom’s director for consumer business Sylvia Mulinge.
“We’re giving them access to these young achievers through sessions where they can listen, ask questions, learn and be inspired, with the hope that they can find the courage to pursue their dreams.”.
The summits will also be held in Kisumu, Nakuru, Meru, Mombasa and Nairobi.
