He was only 14 when he started playing the trumpet, Hugh Masekela grew to become one of the worlds most established musicians of all time, not only making Jazz music beautiful but inspiring millions across the globe.
The 78 year old South African succumbed to his death after a long time battle with prostrate cancer according to his family who in a statement, said he had “passed peacefully” in Johannesburg “after a protracted and courageous battle with prostate cancer”.
Fans across the world have taken to social media to express their heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and all Jazz lovers.
Hugh Masekela was a titan of jazz and of the anti-apartheid struggle. His courage, words and music inspired me, were heard across the world and strengthened the resolve of those fighting for justice in South Africa.
