Sarabi is one of the most concrete bands in Kenyan music scene, everyone who has ever been lucky to attend their show recognizes them as a well oiled machine.
Their connection with the audience is amazing, leaving the attendant dancing and heart-fully thinking as the band takes you through their music adventure.
The super talented nine member band based in Nairobi-The Kenyan capital and its city of Origin just had a documentary about them launched last week at Century Cinemax Junction.
The new documentary film about the band which made a record show during its launch by not only filling one but two theatres during its launch Friday last week.
The film begins with a montage of the band’s members performing at different venues across the world, from Sauti za Busara in Tanzania to the Roskilde Festival in Denmark.
And with development we get to see that Sarabi Band has a lot to do with a mentorship program at the Mathare Youth Sports Association and the hard work of one George Nderitu.
George who trains youth at the Mathere Youth centre helps with the birth of Sarabi from two different bands-Sauti za Kwetu and Wembe Kali.
Hip hop artist Juliani, activist Boniface Mwangi, Jacque Nyaminde better known as Wilbroda, Thomas Menzer, the band’s manager and Abdul Jibril of Thursday Night Live also make special appearances in the film.
Showcasing the lives of the bands members, this film was produced by Nigerian photographer and film producer who runs Silhoutte Pictures; Taye Balogun.
