The art of music is a calling! As much as one is born with the gift of voice, very few rise to the occasion and do what they were destined to do with such powerful vocals and such names is one Jeckonia Otieno popularly known as Jey.
Jey, an award-winning journalist by profession who is currently writing for one of Kenya’s biggest media houses Standard Media Groups’ local leading daily- Standard Newspaper.
With two off the hook singles under his belt the first dubbed “Siogopi” and second “Ninaimba”- a collaborative effort between him Nsada and Ovi which were received with open arms by both fans and critics.
Born in Muthurwa and grew up in Huruma-Nairobi, this fast rising gospel singer and performing artist has unveiled visuals to his latest single titled “Mukwano” a Baganda word that translate to friend.
His latest single a song he uses to tell how gracious the lord Jesus has been to him, Jesus being the one true friend that he has never had in his life until now.
Spreading the word of God to all whom his music lands on their ears, in a statement he tells us “My music us inspired by the word of God and the desire to preach through music”.
When asked about his thoughts on the local gospel industry, the soft-spoken worship leader at ACK ST Mathew’s Karen Church says, “I feel vexed by what people term as gospel musicians”.
