We are blessed as a nation, full of diversity and richness of culture…from the many dialects we speak to many genres of music we sing, be it Hiphop, Kapuka, Genge, Taarab or even Rhumba, we can not deny that one of the most loved genres of urban music is Ghipuka.
Originally associated with big names alike Grand Pa Record’s Kenrazy, Visita, Sosuun and likes, the genre has gained much love across the country and amazingly enough the continent at whole is adopting this new style of music from Kenya.
But as always some day some time someone is destined to dethrone even the mightiest rulers and take over the crown to reign and begin a new era.
Leonard Ngatia also known by his stage name as Lion Net is the new artiste causing ripples in Kenya’s Ghipuka music.
Lion Net discovered his musical talent way back in high school but it wasn’t until last year that he went to Grandpa Records to do his first song tittled “Nipe Nafasi” (Give me an opportunity) the song a titled was a request by the young rapper to show his lyrical prowess to the world.
The turn of events during the release of “Nipe Nafasi” were not so good and Lion Net was frustrated because no one paid him much attention, and in fact his song was poorly done that it was rejected on both radio and TV stations.
All this did not make him give up as this year he signed up with Brandit Management.
The soft-spoked but hard-on-the-mic Nairobi International School of Theology (NIST) student recently released his second single dubbed “Hizo Story” (Those stories) a Ghipuka track that he uses to condemn all manner of vices in out society.
The song has received lots of praise with some Ghipuka bigwigs offering collabos and requesting him to join their record labels.
The Nyahururu-based artiste believes that he’s the new big thing and the likes of Visita should be prepared for the challenge.
Well from my end I can tell there is so much perfection cooking up on Lion Net’s end and its just a matter of time before he rises up the ranks and become the star he is destined to be.
