Yesterday, Thursday June 1st was the day that the best in the gospel industry were to be known; only those with outstanding works were awarded in a celebrity-studded 12th annual Groove Awards gala that went down at KICC in Nairobi.

Attended by both gospel and secular artists, the awards showed how unified our industry as everyone seemed to have a great time and you could not tell who was gospel and who was not, all I could see were Kenyan artist.

Surprises were many, just as the nomination started seeing key players of the industry miss out on this year’s nomination themed – Back to church, as artists like Size 8 also walked out empty handed in-spite being nominated in 3 categories.

Among the names that took home gold included “Vidole” hit maker, the stammering and staggering Eko Dydda who bagged the male artist of the year and Hiphop song of the year, while Mercy Masika of “Shule YAko” clinched the top female award.

Kenya’s most played anthem “Thitima” by Kymo and Stiga was voted as Song of the Year, while “Bazokizo” by Collo and Bruz Newton was voted as Collabo of the Year.
